Premier Cs triumph over the Hawks 4-2…

The Premier Cs rebounded from a loss in the last game of the season to defeat the Hawks 4-2. We were ahead in every period and it seemed unlikely that we'd be overtaken. Franco had to play up, his second game in a row, and was the best man on ice. Great work Franco, and a great team effort. The next game is Friday evening vs the Braves, 8.45 at the Docklands. Be there!

Tigers defeat the Braves in a hard-hitting game…

The Tigers defeated the Braves 5-3 on Wednesday evening in a quite physical game, but one in which the Braves failed to show the form that has characterised their play this season. Mitch opened the scoring just 2.30 into the game, catching the Braves with their guard down. They came back four minutes later, however, and leveled the score on a goal by their captain, Shane Hardy. Mitch rose to the challenge and notched his second goal of the period at 17.16, and that concluded the scoring for the first period. We then scored three more unanswered goals during the second and third periods, by Peter Matus, Paul Meyer and Darcy McNally (his first as a Tiger). Andrew Belic scored at 17.07 of the third to bring the Braves a bit closer and they pulled their goalie in an attempt to claw their way back into the game and force it into overtime. However, the clock and good defensive play thwarted them. We now move straight into the best-of-three Grand Final series, beginning on Sunday evening. A semi between the Braves and Rangers will decide our opponent.

The Reserves' season comes to an end

The Reserves had a bit of a rocky season, but many of the players have improved their skills; with some focused coaching and training they should be ready to remedy the situation in 2011. Good effort, guys!

Recreational Cs triumph over the Sharks, 5-4 in overtime!

The Rec Cs played a terrific game on Monday evening against arch rivals, the Sharks. The Sharks were ahead 4-3 towards the end of the third, but we scored in the last minute of play to send the game into overtime. In the second minute of the extra period, Charles Bruce scored to secure the victory and bring the Sharks' season to a close. Great effort guys, and good luck with the Braves—the game is Saturday evening, 5.30 at the Docklands. Be there if you can!

National Ice Skating Centre Now open at the Docklands

The new ice arena at the Docklands, known as 'The Icehouse', is now open. It has two Olympic-size rinks, and one with plexi-glass, where games will be played. There will be seating for 1000-1100, and it is hoped that there will be TV coverage of some Melbourne Ice and Premier games. There is parking nearby for 3200 cars, with a $5 flat-rate available. You might like to consider buying a Season Ticket for Melbourne Ice games ($180); check the MI website for further details (Melbourne Ice).

Ice Sports Victoria Inc.

Ice Sports Victoria, a body representing all four ice sports played in Victoria (Hockey, Speed Skating, Figure Skating and Curling) was recently incorporated. This body will represent ice sports in all negotiations with the State and Federal Government. As a group, we have greater bargaining power and we are looking at being able to qualify for larger grants in support of our activities in the future. Faye Richey is the Ice Hockey representative on this Committee.
